Shining as an Example of Revitalization

The Rt. Rev. Anne E. Hodges-Copple, bishop suffragan of the Episcopal Diocese of North Carolina, is visiting St. Cyprian’s, Oxford, on Sunday, September 6. She will preach the sermon at the 11 a.m. service.

A church in the midst of a revitalization, St. Cyprian’s is home to a vibrant, diverse congregation. A historically African-American congregation, several years ago the church found itself struggling, so church leaders began reaching out to the community, including its growing Latino population, inviting and welcoming them in to the church. As the congregation grew, so did its offerings to its new members, including bilingual services.

As its congregation grows, the faces in the pews represent ever-growing diversity, and the vitality of church life and activity increases, one thing at St. Cyprian’s has never changed. The mission of St. Cyprian’s has always been, and continues to be, to follow Christ, to come together week by week for corporate worship, and to work, pray and give for the spread of the Kingdom of God.

St. Cyprian’s offers worship services every Sunday morning at 11 a.m. following Bible study at 10 a.m.
