About the Program
Concerned about improving literacy skills in Granville County, our previous Vicar, the Reverend John Heinemeier spearheaded an effort to establish an after-school literacy program to address this need. In partnership with numerous local entities and also with the Augustine Literacy Project, the Reverend Heinemeier worked with former Program Director Brenda Lloyd to develop a system based in the Augustine Project, but with it own distinct approach to child literacy in order to best meet the community’s needs. It has been such a success that there are no further seats in the program available. We have since partnered with the local Boys and Girls Club, and under the leadership of Director Beverly J. Thomas and tutor Ms. Marva Davenport it continues to thrive.
The quotes below illustrate see how this wonderful program has made a real difference in the lives of our community’s families!
“My son was below grade level and by the Grace of God and the Literacy Program, he went from 60% to 90%. Thank you St. Cyprian’s!”
-Ms. Danita Branch
“Getting my grandson to read was a nightmare and all of our best efforts ended in frustration and tears. In a matter of two weeks, after beginning the program, we were able to see a change. By the end of the school year, he scored ‘Proficient in Reading.’ We thank and praise God for the Staff at Cyprian’s for their care, expertise, and knowledge.”
-Ms. Cassandra Bingham
“Your after-school program has been a blessing to my granddaughter! Thank you for the dedication the staff took in the education of young children. Her grades drastically improved, but most importantly, the skills she learned in your program improved her self-confidence.”
– Ms. Linda Griffin
